9 Emerging Black Owned Beverage Brands To Try Out

Uncovering some amazing black-owned alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage brands that have been making their mark in the industry.

We are back with our yearly black history month edition which celebrates and spotlights black-owned beverage brands. We love working with a range of black-owned drink brands throughout the year and in light of black history month, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite brands for you to try for yourself.

Celebrating and supporting black-owned beverage brands is very important to us and allows us to continue to champion diversity within the drinks industry.

We have compiled a list ranging from ready-to-drink cocktails and mocktails to frozen sorbet cocktails!

Bursting flavours ranging from ginger, mango, pineapple, matcha and more - there’s a drink for every sipper!

Each brand has its own story behind the product that links back to culture, heritage and family recipes that have been passed down. Noticing the gap within the market, some of the founders who are members of the African and Caribbean diaspora are on a mission to spread their culture through beverages to the wider world and beyond.

If you are on the lookout for some new drinks to add to your roster or a conscious buyer wanting to diversify the brands you support, then check out the list below and start shopping!

Chapmans of London is a super refreshing and fruity non-alcoholic cocktail of Nigerian origin which has just recently launched in October 2023.

Chapman is a popular go-to beverage for gatherings and celebrations in Nigeria. It is a sparkling fruity and punchy non-alcoholic cocktail with unforgettable flavours. You won’t find a bar or restaurant in Nigeria that doesn’t serve it.

With the gap of fruity and bold non-alcoholic cocktails in the UK, Chapmans of London is determined to bring Nigeria's best-kept secret to the masses.

The range includes the original and the Chapman light.

The Matcha Yaad is Britain’s first Jamaican matcha company which combines Jamaican flavours with Japanese matcha to create functional food and beverages. Founded by Monique Farquharson who is dedicated to spreading her love of matcha from Japan to Jamaica and now the UK.

We came across the brand very recently at the Trade Drinks Expo in London and knew right away it needed to be on the list!

Spending quite some time speaking with the founder Monique Farquharson, we loved hearing her story and background.

It’s refreshing to see the melting pot of cultures, blending a Japanese product with Jamaican flavours including cayenne, ginger and lime, making it the first drink of its kind.

Cháps is an exciting drinks brand created by three friends who have fond memories of drinking Chapman as kids on holiday in Lagos, Nigeria. Whilst growing up in the UK, they realised that though hugely popular within Nigeria and West Africa, the Chapman drink is not widely and readily available in the UK.

They recognised that African drinks at large are very underrepresented within the beverage space. Their vision is to share Africa’s tasteful flavours widespread across the UK by having a cultural impact in the beverage industry.

This drink has the right amount of sweet, fresh and fruity flavour which is best served with an abundance of ice and chopped fruit!

These drinks are tasty, refreshing, more-ish and come in two flavours which are the original lime, and ginger with lime.

The products are now available from Amazon, Asda, Coop and Ocado.
