Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail and one that I have seen around many times but never got a chance to try until now.

I was a bit sceptical at first due to the high alcohol content however I was in for a pleasant surprise!

The original recipe calls for cachaça but I was unable to find it in my local store, so I substituted it with white rum which is the closest in taste for me. I’ve since been able to find a retailer that supplies Cachaça so I’m excited to create some new recipes using this spirit!

Flavour profile: Refreshing, sweet, zesty

Ingredients:

  • 75ml Cachaça

  • 4 tsp Cane sugar

  • Lime quarters

Method:

1. Muddle lime and sugar in a glass
2. Add cachaça and stir
3. Add ice and stir again

Garnish:

Sugar and lime zest rim
Lime wheel

Alterations:
You can also substitute the Cachaça for vodka which turns the cocktail into a Caipiroska!
